Verbal De-Escalation Training

Ensure that your teams have the appropriate skills to handle a hostile or aggressive situation. Unfortunately, our front line teams are seeing an uptick in guests who may be under stress or unhappy about certain mandates. This could also include circumstances involving cultural sensitivities. If a team member understands the basic concepts of verbal de-escalation, it would greatly increase the odds of turning an unpleasant situation into a pleasant encounter and increasing safety.  This...

Listen and Empathize with your Employees

Organizations will need to make sure to listen and empathize with all employee concerns.  Ways in which they can help do this would be to give employees access to submit questions/concerns unanimously and for more senior level associates to be willing to do the same task that they ask from their employees.

Be flexible & supportive

Employees are under a lot of stress. What we're all going through is not normal, and a lot of people are juggling increased responsibilities at work (e.g. evolving roles) and at home (e.g. teacher, caretaker, etc.). If employers can be flexible (i.e. allowing for a flex schedule, giving someone that extra day off, etc.,) and help their employees maintain a more sane work life balance, employees will be in a better all around position to provide the best guest experience.  Check out this...

Just Listen

It will be more important than ever before to give our employees the tools they need to provide feedback about their experiences in real-time. Gone are the days of asking employees about their experiences once or twice a year. We need to enable our teams to provide feedback and give the organization the ability to act on that feedback as quickly as possible. Our employee experiences are evolving in real-time and we need processes that evolve at that same rate.

Empathy training for frontline managers

Organizations should invest in enabling their frontline managers on how to approach the workplace with empathy. The personal lives of so many frontline workers within the industry have been impacted by the pandemic and its effects are likely to linger even after we resume some level of normalcy. An empathic leader who possesses a heightened level of awareness in regards to the impact of COVID on his/her employees will likely be more successful in making employees feel supported, resulting in...
